Former Vice President Annette Lu is planning to officially announce her bid in the 2012 presidential election today. For the past few years, she has for more than once expressed her ambition with her remarks over political issues. Even though her speech has oftentimes drawn various reactions, some scholars said that she is a determined individual and she still stands a chance to win at the DPP's primary. During her stint as vice president, Annette Lu often complained that she was unable to spread her wings and fly. Many wondered at the time whether Lu had presidential aspirations, and she has been politically active since leaving the Presidential Office. Lu and Tsai Ing-wen were special guests at a book launch in 2009. When the focal point turned to female presidential candidates and Tsai, Lu pointedly said to Tsai that perhaps the person next to her could help her achieve her goal. Lu is 67 years old and single, and holds a Masters degree from Harvard University. She was sentenced to 12 years in 1979 for her role in the Formosa Incident, and is a former vice president, legislator, and Taoyuan County magistrate. Political science scholars close to Lu say that she still has many goals, and could be ready to wage the last battle of her political career. They also say that she has never lost a campaign, and that a great deal of thought went into her decision to run for president next year. The DPP's presidential candidate will be determined through public opinion polls, and other potential candidates include Tsai and Su Tseng-chang. Experts say that Lu needs to use political conventions to share her ideals and goals with voters, and that she stands a good chance if she is able to overcome challenges. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
