A student from Taichung's Asia University has recently invented a set of glowing LED bicycle pedals, which will significantly increase bikers' safety in conditions of poor lighting. With a built-in micro generator that converts the motion of pedaling into electricity lighting up the LEDs, the eco-friendly design has also won the student an invention award in Seoul. When the pedals are in use, their LED lights illuminate. Inventor Liu Yi-chun says that she wanted to use the energy created when the pedals are in use to power the LED lights, and that she was inspired to develop the pedals after witnessing a late-night accident involving an elderly man on a bicycle. It took her nearly four months to research energy principles and create and modify the design to make the pedals thinner. The pedals recently won the gold medal at an invention competition in Seoul, and she has since sold the design to a manufacturer for 2 million NT. The pedals are not only eco-friendly, but also make cycling at night a safer endeavor. There is definite market demand for such a product, and the pedals are expected to sell well around the world. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
