70% of the flamingo flowers grown in Kaohsiung's Neimen are exported to Japan, but cargo flights between Taiwan and Japan have been suspended for the time being.

Flower farmers are therefore extremely concerned about sales. Unlike Japan, Chinese and Taiwanese consumers have a preference for red flamingo flowers.

Therefore, investment costs for flower farmers would rise exponentially if they were to start focusing on the Chinese market.

Cishan's banana farmers are facing similar issues.

The local Farmers Association says that the short-term effects of the earthquake on Kaohsiung's agricultural exports are hard to assess, but that it will continue monitoring the situation.

The local Fisheries Association, meanwhile, says that this season's yellowfin tuna supply is relatively low, and that Tungkang's yellowfin tuna and cherry shrimp fishermen will try to focus on domestic sales for the time being.

Yellowfin tuna prices have fallen by around 20 NT per kilogram, but price levels are still within acceptable parameters.
