More than 10 civil groups recently formed an "Anti-Poverty Alliance" in an attempt to urge the government to address the widening wealth gap. And last week, the alliance held a press conference at the Legislative Yuan, requesting lawmakers to help the underprivileged through legislation. Activists from the Anti-Poverty Alliance handed the written promises for all the lawmakers to the security guards at the Legislative Yuan. They want the lawmakers to show their stance on whether or not they are willing to amend laws for the poor since the number of poor people is rising, which serves as a proof of a worsening poverty situation in the country. The Anti-Poverty Alliance is formed by many local groups and it hopes the legislators can amend the laws for the poor and establish a social safety network to prevent the tsunami of poverty. They believe the law amendment is needed to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor since more than millions of people in the country make less than 20,000 NTD per month. And the number of working poor is escalating. The alliance hopes that lawmakers can support the law amendment proposal and get it done by this legislative term. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
