College applicants are facing unusually stiff competition this year as the number of test-takers achieving full score in the entrance exam has reached a new high at 200. And 98 of them have all applied for admission to the School of Medicine at National Taiwan University. But only 20 will be accepted in the end.

In this year's joint college entrance exam, 200 test-takers achieve perfect scores.

Take National Taiwan University's Medical School for an example, all of the 98 students who make it through the first screening achieve perfect scores.

But they will have to go through the second phase of test to make it to the final 20-man admission list.

Most students who pass the first screening of the National Taiwan University come from traditional star schools such as Chien-kuo senior high school and Taipei First Girl's High School.

Quite surprisingly, the Makong High School in Penghu actually has a great record this year with 72 students passing the screening.

10 of the students pass the screenings of three programs and one student is admitted by five programs.

According to the school's principle Hsueh Tung-fu, this is the best record of the high school and it proves that with hardwork, children in remote areas can get admission from national universities, a sign that helps promote the 12-year mandatory education.
