Passengers can expect a shorter wait when traveling via the Kaoshiung Mass Rapid Transit, with its plan to add 60 more trains per day starting next month. Although the MRT system is still facing losses, the increase is set to boost ridership and make the commute easier for Kaoshiung residents.

Starting in April, the Kaohsiung MRT will be adding 60 trains per day to existing schedules to cut wait time between trains from 6 to 8 minutes to 4 to 6 minutes during peak traffic hours.

Many commuters cite wait time of around 10 minutes during non-peak hours as the main reason why they opt for other modes of public transportation.

While most are in favor of the Kaohsiung MRT's latest move, some are concerned that the plan could propel the MRT into deeper financial distress.

The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation, meanwhile, views the move as a way to boost ridership.

At present time, bus routes traveling along MRT lines arrive every 10 to 15 minutes during peak traffic hours and 15 to 20 minutes during non-peak hours.

If MRT ridership increases, bus companies will likely follow suit and add more buses to their schedules.
