Businesses between the two sides have been feeling the negative impact. The export of bluefin tuna from Pingtung County to Japan has dropped significantly in the past two weeks with Japanese buyers canceling the orders. To cut the losses, fishermen are starting to consider selling the fish to the domestic market. These ocean going vessels are carrying recently caught bluefin tuna. Originally, these tuna were intended for export to Japan but now because of the earthquake Japan has canceled all of its orders. This means that these bluefin tuna have no choice but to be turned over to the domestic market. These canceled orders from Japan are equal to roughly half of the catch, and now because US and South Korean fishermen have the same worries, bluefin tuna prices will go lower potentially attracting more buyers. Although fishermen are worried about the collapse of the export market, many in Taiwan love to eat tuna and the good news of this bargain will transfer to seafood restaurants. This bluefin tuna had an average price of 300 NT$ per piece, with the whole plate costing 1,000 NT dollars, it will now be more affordable for everyone to eat. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
