A reception has just been held to commemorate the contribution to the field of education by the National Institute for Compilation and Translation. Having been responsible for the making of textbooks for junior and high schools for more than 80 years, the institute is set to merge with the National Education Research Institute by the end of this month.

Established in 1932, National Institute for Compilation and Translation has always been the alternative name for textbook, as it is responsible for the writing and editing of textbooks for middle and high schools.

But since the authority allowed the public sector to write textbooks after 1996, the institute remains one responsibility of approving books.

Now it is to enter history. Former commissioners at the agency find it a pity.

As the society changes, the role of the institute was also switched from writer and editor to reviewer, with shrinking responsibilities.

Therefore, it is to be integrated into the National Education Institute with other educational agencies in the future.

The institute has contributed a lot to Taiwan's education in the 80 years.

But it will have a new name under a new agency.

While it continues to bear the responsibility of book reviewer, it is also given the mission to promote textbook and educational research development.
