KMT Taipei City Councilor Chen Yu-mei announced her withdrawal from the upcoming legislative race in the Datong Shihlin district yesterday, making way for fellow party member, legislator Justin Chou, to run for re-election without the risk of a potential split of the pan-blue vote.

Following negotiations with KMT officials, Taipei City Councilor Chen Yu-mei announced on Tuesday that she would be withdrawing from the Datong Shilin race.

The party will be represented by legislator Justin Chou in the district during the year-end legislative elections.

The KMT is also negotiating with prospective candidates for District 3, where incumbent John Chiang, at-large legislator Lo Shu-lei, and City Councilor Wang Hao are vying for the party nomination.

Meanwhile, Huang Chao-shun and Chang Hsien-yao are fighting for the same seat, as are Lee Fu-hsing and Chiu Yi.

The KMT has been reserved in its statements regarding legislative nominations, but the discord is being billed as "KMT vs. PFP."

Both parties are aware, however, that a split within the pan-blue camp could decimate its chances in the next presidential and legislative elections.
