Amid continuing protests, the officials of the Ministry of Economic Affairs said that if the Kuokuang Petrochemical project fails the environmental evaluations, the complex may be moved abroad.

Although the company said that shifting the whole project to another country is a possible option, they are trying their best to pass the review at this time, to carry out the plan that has been stalled for years.

After President Ma Ying-jeou visited Changhua in person to understand local residents concerns,

it is rumored that the KuoKuang petrochemical plants might take an unexpected turn should the environment impact assessment failed to pass, one option is for the plant to go overseas.

The Ministry of the Economic Affairs says that, the decision lies in the share-holders and currently, the China Petroleum Corporation Fifth Ligroin Cracking plant is planning on going abroad.

KuoKuang petrochemical pointed out that, it is still hoping the environment impact assessment can be passed, if not, moving overseas might be one of the options, for which, Asia would be the first consideration, but eliminating China for safety concern for supply.

The Ministry of the Economic Affairs pointed out that, if the KuoKuong petrochemical plant is not going to be build and the China Petroleum Corporation Fifth Ligroin Cracking plant is moving overseas, the Taiwanese petrochemical industry is going to face a disruption in the industrial chain and the impact could be huge.

However, currently, the environment impact should be the first concern while EPA minister Shen Shih Hong is optimistic if the plant can be moved overseas.
