Targeting the Chinese travelers that will be spending the summer on our island, the Hsinchu County government has proposed to renovate the legendary "Young Marshal", Zhang Xueliang's old residence, by making it into a cultural park.

With the project planned to be finished by June, the county government is also improving the transportation in the area, to make it more accessible for all visitors.

The workers are trying to finish the statues of Zhang Xueliang and his wife, Zhao Yidi before the cross-strait conference on Zhang Xueiliang is held in June.

The residence of Zhang in Wu-Feng Township, Hsinchu County has been open to the public since the end of 2007.

However, the residence is a newly built structure because the original residence locates in landslide-prone areas and needs renovation.

The Hsinchu County government is now applying for reconstruction approval to renovate the old residence and make it into a Zhang Xueiliang Cultural Park.

In order to attract more mainland tourists to visit Zhang Xueiliang's old residence, Hsinchu County government has proposed to enlarge Zhang's old house, with a 20-million grant sponsored by Liaoning Provincial government.

However, the residence locates in the mountainous area in Wu-Feng Township, which takes around 2 hours to get to the Wu-Feng Township from Hsinchu downtown, and only one bus operates nearly every one hour.

It seems that the transportation remains to be the top issue that the county government must fix, to attract either local or mainland tourists.
