DPP Tainan city councilor Wang Ding-yu is under fire for allegedly depositing the relief fund he raised for the August 8th flooding into his wife's personal account, and failing to disclose the information about the donation.

Regarding the case, Minister of the Interior Jiang Yi-huah said that Wang must immediately return the money to all donors, otherwise, he will be fined up to 100,000 NT dollars for violating the Charity Donations Act.

When the 88 flooding happened two years ago, DPP Tainan City councilor Wang Ding-yu applied for a special fundraising account from Ministry of the Interior and raised relief funds via television, radio and the Internet.

But it is suspected that he deposited the money into his wife Lee Su-yin's personal bank account.

Minister of the Interior Chiang Yi-huah said it's illegal for Wang to raise funds and deposit to his personal account.

According to the Charitable Fundraising Law, Wang would have to return the funds raised to the donors.

The local government could also issue warnings to Wang and ask him to comply with the mandate before a deadline or he would face a fine ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 NTD.

Wang recently won the primary of the legislative election in the DPP and will represent the party to run in the fifth constituency of Tainan City, beating the 5-term incumbent legislator Lee Jun-yi, who asks the party to quickly investigate the scandal.

The party remains low-key and refused to comment on whether the incident would impact Wang's nomination, only saying that it will wait until the investigation result comes out.
