DPP'S SU: NOT RUNNING FOR VICE PRESIDENT

With the DPP primary entering its final stage, DPP presidential candidate Su Tseng-chang openly stated that he has no interest in becoming the party's vice presidential nominee for next year's election, because he is running for president in the hope to serve the nation. In responding to the same question, DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen, who is also in the race for the DPP bid, said that it is all still too early to say before the announcement of the public poll.

As the DPP party is counting down the last days before the primary, candidate Su Tseng-chang has taken it upon himself to declare that should he lose in the presidential election, he will not abandon the DPP.

Su emphasizes that a presidential election is an election to become president and he would not accept any position otherwise.

He was referring to the presidential election in 2007 when he lost to Frank Hsieh in the DPP primary and became Hsieh's running mate.

However, to rival candidate Tsai Ing-wen, Su's statements are premature.

The DPP primary will take place on April 25 and 26 and a poll will be conducted on the general population.

Of the three contesting DPP candidates, Tsai Ing-wen, Su Tseng-chang, and Hsu Hsing-liang, the one to get the highest number of votes from the general population will be selected to run against incumbent president, Ma Ying-jeou, in the next presidential election.

Results will be available by April 27, the soonest.
