In an effort to enhance readiness for the coming typhoon season, the Taitung County government has launched an annual disaster prevention drill along the riverbank, simulating multiple scenarios for water, air and land rescue missions. Around 800 participants took part in the exercise, along with the use of the latest equipments in conducting effective operations. The drill simulated a typhoon sweeping Taitung, where farmers and some local residents were trapped in the sand bar. The fire department deployed the rarely seen hovercraft to carry out the rescue mission. On the other side, the rescue team tried to save those trapped in the riverbed. The army and the fire department sent out helicopters to fly above the river trying to save those who were trapped. This is the annual disaster prevention drill in Taitung County, where 800 people from the army and rescue teams took part in the mission of saving lives, operating from sea, air or land. Since the typhoon season is coming soon, this huge drill serves as a warm-up event for soldiers and rescue workers and as a reminder to the public. Given drastic weather changes, one should always get ready when a natural disaster strikes. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
