During the financial crisis of 2009, the Kaohsiung County government had launched a program which helped unemployed people earn a living by growing vegetables on the farm rented by the county government.

However, with the municipality upgrade, the Kaohsiung City government has decided to suspend the program, which has worried the farmers, who are afraid that they'll lose their livelihood again.

Mrs. Chen is removing grass in the paddy field and harvesting under the hot sun.

But she doesn't want to plant any more seeds afterwards.

The piece of farmland, which the Kaohsiung County government leased for them may no longer be available for these formerly jobless people since the Kaohsiung City government doesn't plan to continue the policy.

Two years ago, the Kaohsiung County government leased the piece of farmland to help more than 200 jobless people affected by the financial crisis have stable income by growing crops.

But the Kaohsiung City government doesn't plan to continue to program and farmers are worried about their future.

The city government says the farmland program is a temporary policy and labor workers should return to the job market.

The labor affairs bureau says it will work with the social affairs bureau to assist these farmers to return to the job market based on their personal expertise and work experiences.
