To make better use of the public buildings that are slowly deteriorating because of low usage rate, the Minister of the Public Construction Commission Lee Hong-yuan, has proposed to turn these vacant structures into public housings.

Lee hopes that the project can be first implemented in Taipei City and New Taipei City.

Vacant or abandoned public buildings or structures have oftentimes been criticized as a waste of public resources.

To make better use of the buildings, the Public Construction Commission Minister Lee Hong-yuan has recently proposed that the central and local governments can consider turning vacant public buildings into public housing, or more affordable houses for the youth.

Lee welcomes architecture students and young architects to contribute their ideas to the project to make these buildings new landmarks in the cities.

By renovating, rather than constructing from scratch, the project is likely to save time and the government's resources.

Most people welcome the idea, saying that it is a good way to help young people purchase their homes.

Besides making idle structures into useful buildings, Lee also says that he has started looking into PCC's construction cases and has found that more than 100 cases are not necessary or can be postponed.

If these cases are cancelled, it will likely to save more than 10 billion NT for the PCC, and avoid wasting government resources.
