In a symbolic act to show the government's determination to solve the plasticizer issue, President Ma Ying-jeou and Premier Wu Den-yih took part in the destruction of 12 tons of DEHP-tainted foodstuff during an inspection visit to an incineration plant in Changhua yesterday morning.

Ma later explained that the D-day set by the Department of Health last month only marks the beginning, rather than the completion, of an islandwide effort to eliminate problematic food products, but the authorities have exhibited strong confidence in ending the nightmare as soon as possible.
