The hotel maid who has accused former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn for sexually assaulting her in a New York City hotel room earlier in May, has decided to end her public silence in an interview with the media.

Nafissatou Diallo, a mother of a 15-year-old child, spoke to the media that she has made up her mind to talk because she wants to defend her story and her reputation.

She said back then, she didnt know that the man was Dominique Strauss-Kahn until she saw him on TV the very next day after the assault took place.

Kahns attorneys vicious tactics of blaming her, actually made her want to speak out for herself, although she said she didn't want to go public. Diallo said, quote: "Because of him they call me a prostitute," referring to published reports that she had sex for money. She added, "I want him to go to jail. I want him to know there are some places you cannot use your power, you cannot use your money."

Strauss-Kahn was later arrested and charged in New York with sexual abuse and attempted rape, and was forced to resign from the post of the IMF chief on May 19th. However, he pleaded not guilty and denied all allegations. After posting $1 million bail and a $5 million bond, Strauss-Kahn was put under house arrest while his case was pending. Strauss-Kahn was later released after prosecutors presented evidence questioning the credibility of Diallo, who admitted to prosecutors that she lied about the specifics of her whereabouts following the incident, the details of an asylum application and the information on tax forms.

However, accusing Strauss-Kahn, who was global economic leader, and a leading contender for the French presidency, triggered a more extensive fallout.

His case not only rocked the IMF but also the French politics. His supporters claim that this could have been a scheme to ruin his name. If charges against him are dropped, it could bring huge effect on the upcoming French presidential election.

In response, Strauss-Kahn's U.S.-based attorneys have issued a statement criticizing Diallo for talking with the media, claiming that money is what shes after.

Strauss-Kahn's next court date is scheduled for August 1st.
