Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, is becoming a familiar sight on a poster near the House of Parliament in London - as the face of Margaret Thatcher for her latest film, "The Iron Lady." "I'm happy to be here with my brilliant director Phyllida Lloyd and to stop and give you a preview of what you'll be so sick of looking at all over London soon enough - which is my face." In order to bring life to Britain's first and so far the only female prime minister, Streep visited Parliament to do some research on Thatcher, who governed Britain from 1979 to 1990 with pro-free market zeal. Thatcher's hard line against trade unions and tough rhetoric in opposition to the Soviet Union earned her the nickname of the "Iron Lady". Thatcher's family has expressed fears that the film will be critical, but director Phyllida Lloyd says that the movie focuses on the life of Thatcher, rather than her political ideologies. "I hope that we have really done justice to the size of her life and the passion of her convictions and I hope that they will see that Meryl in particular has treated her with great dignity and attention to detail so I am hopeful that they will see that we have treated her with respect." Lloyd again emphasized that it is not a political film, but will be the story of how a woman went through the challenges to lead Britain to a better status. "It is going to be very interesting to see how people react to it but it is not a political film as such. It is a film that looks at what a woman had to go through to take the reigns of power and to take hold of Britain at the end of the second, well after the second world war when we had fallen into a decline and what it felt like to be in this world of men. When there were very few female MP's in the House of Commons." When speaking about the upcoming release, Lloyd just couldn't hide her excitement."I am excited actually, I think it is going to be controversial but it is really not going to be what people expect. It is not a conventional biopic, it is all told from Margaret Thatcher's point of view and yes I think people are going to be surprised and dazzled by Meryl's performance.""The Iron Lady" will hit UK cinemas on January 6th 2012. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
