A Honduran prosecutor said that the devastating prison fire that killed 360 inmates on February 14 was likely caused by a candle or cigarette that set a mattress alight. However, the explanation given by Honduran officials was rejected by some grieving family members who have been waiting outside the morgue to identify the bodies of their loved ones. Devastated relatives said they are not convinced that a cigarette or candle could have caused such a catastrophic blaze, while some indicated that there were a number of suspicious circumstances when the fire broke out. They have also pointed out that in a video taken by a resident living close to the prison, gunshots could be heard rattling out while the fire blazed. In response, police said they were firing warning shots in the air to stop inmates escaping. Some relatives called the report a lie, saying that if it was an accident, there would not just be dead prisoners but also police. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
