Easily leading all movies in the marketplace, Universal held onto the number one spot with its animation flick "Dr. Seuss' the Lorax" for the second weekend, although it dropped an acceptable 44% to an estimated 39.1 million US dollars. 3D and IMAX ticket prices have helped along the way and on Sunday, Lorax became the highest-grossing film of 2012 after just ten days of release with a total of 122 million US dollars. Breaking the 200 million-US-dollar-barrier should be no problem for the 70 million production.

Number 2 went to the mega-budgeted 3D sci-fi epic "John Carter" with an estimated 30.6 million US dollars. However, estimates regarding the possibly 250 million-budget film indicate that it's hard for "John Carter" to become a financial winner as the film earns only a B+ CinemaScore.

Party comedy "Project X" surprisingly held well in its second weekend with an estimated 11.6 million US dollars at No. 3. Still, the 12 million-US-dollar film is very likely to finish with a promising 65 million US dollars.

The new horror film "Silent House" debuted in fourth place with an estimated 7 million US dollars. Starred by Elizabeth Olsen, the R-rated chiller tells the story of a young woman who is trapped inside her family's lakeside retreat as she finds that things are becoming increasingly ominous in and around the house. However, the film earned mixed reviews as ticket buyers were not satisfied with the ending, with many giving a dismal F CinemaScore to the film.

No. 5 went to "Act of Valor" with 7 million US dollars, pushing the total ticket sale to 56.1 million US dollars.

Eddie Murphy's new comedy "A Thousand Words" opened at No. 6 with an estimated 6.4 million US dollars. The Paramount release about a fast-talking agent that must refrain from speaking or else he will die. Apparently, the storyline failed to excite moviegoers and earned a B- CinemaScore.

The only good news was that "A Thousand Words" beat the openings of Murphy's recent box office disaters "Meet Dave" and "Imagine That," which raked in 5.2 million and 5.5 million US dollars, respectively.
