In an age of multiplexes and free online movies, it's curtains for old-fashioned cinema houses. The last one in Tainan County, founded more than 50 years ago, recently announced its plan to close down next month, disappointing many film lovers in the area. News that Tainan County's last of the old cinemas, the Madou Theatre would be closed left many of its former audience quite upset. Located in the popular Hsinchung Road it has 50 years of history, and 20 years ago it was converted to do second run films. It was very popular with students. However, audience response has gradually changed, and it later switched to showing new releases with one ticket at 150 NT$ allowing one to see two films. It is very cheap and still uses old creaking projectors and has 3 color hand painted posters making many people nostalgiac. However, the popularity of 3D movie technology and the gradual loss of the old theater audience, led this business to have no choice but to close. In its heyday, Tainan County, had a total of seventy cinemas, but one after another they all closed. This was the impact of television and video rentals as this was the only cinema in Madou. Now, one will have to travel to neighboring towns to see a movie, at least half an hour drive to Tainan. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
