The construction process of the Gangshan MRT station of the Kaohsiung MRT system is back in business. After two years of delay on the expansion project, the Gangshan section is estimated to be completed in 2012. After two years of anticipation, the Kaohsiung City Government and residents finally see the beginning of the construction on the Gangshan section of the Kaohsiung MRT system. The construction began on July 3rd.Local residents hope that the MRT section would continue to Lu-Ju.Even Kaohsiung county magistrate Yang Chiu-hsin and KMT-nominated Kaohsiung city mayor candidate Huang Chao Shun asked the Central Government for several times, hoping the delayed expansion project could be given a green light as soon as possible. Premier Wu Den-yih, who was presiding the construction ceremony, gave an satisfactory answer. But the project to extend 9.4 kilometers of track to Lu-Ju would cost NT$16.8 billion. Already suffering from financial losses, the Kaohsiung MRT company believes a detailed calculation is needed. As the company assessed, the Gangshan station, which takes NT$1.3 billion to build, doesn't help the system to raise the ridership. But if the MRT extends into Lu-Ju and adds 6 stations, it could attract more commuters. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
