A Taichung Prison inmate became the first in Taiwan to graduate from a university while incarcerated. He not only earned a bachelor's degree in business, but did so as the top ranked student in class.

The students listen attentively to the lecture even though they have no opportunity to interact with the professor. Taichung Prison inmate Mr. Lin not only became the first inmate in Taiwan's history to graduate from university while incarcerated, but also graduated at the top of his class.

He completed a business degree in four years, and managed to maintain high grades throughout the four years. National Open University initially thought that he was cheating, and even sent someone to the prison to investigate. Lin already had a college degree when he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder seven years ago.

According to his counselor, working towards his degree has changed Lin and he has turned over a new leaf. Lin next hopes to pursue graduate studies, and says that if he is able to get his sentence reduced, he would like to live a practical life, become a real estate agent, and repay his wife for her years of unwavering support.
