The Legislative Yuan has just passed several amendments to revoke perks enjoyed by former president Chen Shui-bian, who has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for corruption and money laundering. According to the new law, Chen's courtesy treatment would not be restored unless he can be proven innocent in the final verdict.

With the sound of the gavel hitting the table, the third reading of the amendment to the regulation on courtesy and treatment for ex-president and ex-vice president has passed so that once the former leaders were found guilty in initial trial, all benefit would terminate.

In addition, the new law indicates that personal guard number would be reduced to 2 to 3 people and all benefits would only resume until proven not guilty after third trial.

Former president Chen Shui-bian, who is found guilty in money laundry charges in the second trial, will have his NT$250,000 monthly fund and NT$6 million administrative fund privileges removed.

Originally, president or vice president would only face such punishment should he or she committed treason.

According to pan-blue legislator, President Ma Ying Jeou and Vice President Vincent Siew are also under the same regulation.

In the extraordinary Legislative session, it has been decided that, with the upgrade of many cities to special municipalities,

Legislator numbers in Greater Kaohsiung would reduce by one seat while Greater Tainan would gain a seat.

However, with the newly amended Election law, the change wont happen until the year 2022, therefore, Greater Kaohsiung would have an extra seat until then,

which means Greater Tainan would have one less seat, which made many Tainan legislators furious over the matter.

The session also passed the third reading of amendment to the presidential office organization regulation and the change of presidential advisors jobs to no pay positions,

in addition to amendment to judicial Ministry organization and upgrade of Correctional Agency to Bureau status.
