The Ghost Festival ceremony in Keelung has reached a climax with events both on land and in water, including the car parade and the water lantern activities. The traditional ritual is more like a celebration rather, attracting those in hope for a prosperous year ahead.

Held for 156 consecutive years, Keelung's Mid-summer Ghost Festival is held on the 7th month and the 14th day. According to tradition, men are invited to carry out water lanterns into the sea during this event.

Organizing this year's festival has fallen upon the Wu family clan. A special ceremony and series of activities were organized in the afternoon to pray for smooth passage of this year's Ghost Festival activities.

To promote the Keelung Ghost Festival and tourism activities associated with water lanterns, floats began with Keelung's 15 different clans and other community groups providing a total of 32 floats.

Here we see each clan has a float which bears its name and is reflected through special characteristics in the float.

The Keelung Environmental Protection Agency also provided a float that included recycled materials such as the blades from old fans and driftwood from the beach, as well as Styrofoam to carve out a polar bear and Antarctic penguins.

Furthermore, the float was powered by humans. After the parade, the main event took place as everyone gathered on stage at 9:30 in the evening at Keelung's Wanghaihsiang Harbour to cast these water lanterns into the ocean at the highpoint of this event.
