A couple from Nantou County recently defeated competitors from more than 40 nations to win a fish-breeding competition in Germany. And what's the key to their success? They offer a diet of fresh beef and beef liver to their fish.

This fish recently won an international rainbow angelfish competition. Featuring beautiful dark blue spots and shimmery scales, it also has elegant lines and radiant eyes.

The judges were particularly taken with its rare C-shaped pattern. Its breeder, Mr. Liu, says that a great deal of work goes into preparing its diet, which includes beef and shrimp.

Liu says that water temperature is also key to raising beautiful fish, and that angelfish can only survive in water temperatures of between 28 degrees and 30 degrees.

Mr. Liu had a special boiler made, and monitors the temperature of the tank day and night. As a result, his monthly electric bill generally exceeds 20,000 NT.

He says that every fish is like his child, and that it takes two years for them to reach competition age.

Having won 13 international competitions so far, Liu has definitely won glory for Taiwan.
