531 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed around the island since March, and to control the further spread of the disease, the Environmental Protection Administration is undertaking preventive measures by cleaning up possible vector breeding sites in southern Taiwan. Tons of mosquitoes fly out when the lid is opened. Staff of the Centers for Disease Prevention pour down chemicals to prevent Dengue fever. Hundreds of larvae appear on the water surface, which is quite a scary scene. This year happens to be the peak year for Dengue fever outbreaks, which run in cycles, occurring every four years. The flood in Southern Taiwan made the outbreak even more difficult to manage. As of October 10th, the number of reported cases in Kaohsiung City has reached 345 cases. 57 cases in Tainan county and 107 in Tainan City. Two of the confirmed cases died. Kaohsiung city lawmaker Hou Chai-feng says she has never seen such a worst outbreak of Dengue fever in October. Given the serious conditions, the Environmental Protection Administration chief Shen Shi-hong stations in southern Taiwan to personally conduct the prevention work. The EPA reminds the public to keep an eye on water containers such as vases or water tanks to minimize the risks. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
