In order to decrease the abandoned vehicles that are left unwanted around the streets of Taiwan, which is reported to be more than 100,000 each year, the Environmental Protection Agency has come up with a new proposal.

The policy will force people to follow the proper procedure of disposing their automobiles. A proof of recycling will be needed before one can cancel the car's registration.

For those who have a scrap vehicle to report would know that the first thing to do is to go to the local Motor Vehicle Supervision Office to cancel its registration record.

However, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, 550,000 cars are reported as scrap vehicles annually but there is still 20%, around 110,000 cars, that are not collected and their whereabouts are unknown.

This not only produces environmental hazard, but also would likely to contribute to the illegal car parts market.

Therefore, to prevent this problem from happening, the EPA has made up new regulations.

So for those who have scrapped vehicles and want to cancel their registration, they would have to go to the EPA first and get their car recycled and get the paperwork done, then the motor vehicle office can process their registration cancellation.

However, this regulation is being reviewed by the Legislator Yuan at the moment and the implemented date is yet to be decided.
