And we surely expect to see Lee work his magic in this new film as he did so many times.

Yet perhaps from now on we should refer to the renowned director as "Dr. Lee," for the Oscar winner just received an honorary doctorate degree yesterday from his alma mater, the National Taiwan University of Arts.

On Saturday, director Ang Lee received an honorary PhD from his alma mater, National Taiwan University of the Arts.

Lee is currently in Taiwan to scout locations for his new 3D film, and says that 70% of the scenes will be shot in Taiwan.

The renowned director further expressed hopes that the film's production process would provide domestic filmmakers with opportunities to learn.

In regards to the recent Tokyo Film Festival controversy, Lee said that he has had similar experiences over the past two decades, but that Taiwan's filmmakers should fight back with soft power rather than feel sorry for themselves.

Referencing his own experiences, Lee offered domestic filmmakers words of encouragement and said that the soft power of art and culture can overcome political suppression.
