Also in health news, National Cheng-kung University has lately developed a new form of surgery through nanotechnology that would enable doctors to perform operations on a genetic level, opening up new possibilities for cancer treatment. If a person has been diagnosed with cancer, then that person must inevitably go through the painful experience of invasive surgery or chemotherapy. But that may all be in the past. This small-sized machine emits a blue ray called nano scissors, which is possibly the new cancer destroyer of the future. The new ray technology, a recent development at the National Cheng Kung University, can penetrate deep into the human body and directly perform surgery on problematic genes or cells. The nano scissors are made up of tiny pink molecular dots that measure only a hundreth thousandth in breadth of a single strand of hair in size. Through a ray of light, the particles first enter genes or cells and then hit the nucleus. The nano scissors then slice off the damaged links to manipulate or treat the genes that cause cancer. This new technological breakthrough can be used flexibly in different cancer cases and even prevent hereditary cancerous genes. This technology is currently the first of its kind in the world and has already been successfuly conducted on animal test subjects. The next step will be to test the technology on human subjects. If successful, cancer treatments may be much easier in the future. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
