In Kaohsiung, the incumbent mayor, Chen Ju, was subpoenaed by local prosecutors to defend herself on Thursday against charges of negligence during the September flooding. Chen first denied the accusation that she left the city when the disaster hit, and then expressed her suspicion that the entire legal process against her has been driven by political motives. KMT greater Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Huang Chao shun and KMT legislator Chiu Yi are suing Kaohsiung city mayor Chen Ju for not performing her duty as the mayor on the day of the 919 flood. Chen appeared in court early Thursday morning, accompanied by her supporters and DPP city councilmen; some of Chens supporters even gave her flowers to cheer her on. After about an hour of interrogation in court, Chen said that the prosecutor focused on her itinerary of Sept 19th, which she said she replied honestly that she was in Kaohsiung city all day on the 19th. As to someone who accused her be being in Kaohsiung Tien Liao, Chen said she wants to see proof. At the site, the youth supporters of Huang held banners and demand Chen to step down, which was faced with retaliation from DPP city councilmen with both sides pushing and shoving each other at one time . Meanwhile, Chen is suing both Hung and Chiu for violating election law for they are purposely targeting her right before the election with the lawsuit, for which, Chiu appeared in court and asked Chen to face the judicial system bravely.
