After ex-president Chen Shui-bian's conviction of bribery by the Supreme Court on Thursday, he has been stripped of all the privileges due to him as a former head of state, including five years' worth of annual stipends totaling more than 40 million NT dollars.

Towo years ago, former president Chen Shui-bian fell from the presidential office straight into the files of the special investigative unit.

His security detail which included at least ten sturdy and tall body guards flanked and protected him whever he went.

If Chen went on a hunger strike or sought medical attention, his security detail cleared the roads for his trip.

However, the former presidents' pension will no longer be available to Chen.

Supposedly, Chen is eligible to claim a 250,000 NT dollar pension every month.

Added to the 210,000 NT dollar bonus at every yearend, that's a total of 3 million NT dollars per year.

In the year 2008 alone, Chen claimed a total of over 11 million NT dollars.

Afterwards, 1 million dollars was deducted each year in receptive costs up to a maximum of 5 million.

In other words, in 2001, the pension will no longer be deducted.

This means that in 2009, Chen claimed over 10 million NT dollars in pension funds.

In 2010, he received 9 million.

In three years, Chen received nearly 31 million dollars which are all now unaccounted for.

However, starting in 2011 and up until 2015, the accumulated 41 million NT dollar pension of the five years will not be given to Chen because of his crimes.

The disgraced former president will not only have to recover the illegal income, he will not be eligible for retirement fund.
