DPP Secretary-General Su Jia-chuan convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the timetable for the party's primary election for the upcoming Presidential and Legislative elections. While Su is hoping to announce the candidates by this coming March, some DPP members are opposing to the idea of moving up the date, worrying that they may not be able complete the negotiation between factions within the party. Following the 5 municipal elections, the next major vote is the legislative election scheduled for the end of next year and the upcoming 2012 presidential election. A few days ago, the DPP established a rules and reform research group to research legislative amendments and nominating primaries with DPP Secretary-General Su Jia-chuan convening the group on December 27. Su hoped the party could nominate a president and legislators before the end of March. He said this would help unite the party and pose a greater challenge to KMT President Ma Ying-jeou. However, the DPP's presidential primary nomination process in the past, only produced a candidate in May prior to the election. Some were opposed to moving the schedule up by 2 months. However, Cheng Wen-Tsan said that this group had not reached a consensus, and if one would be achieved in the future, then it would have to be sent to the Central Standing Committee and passed by the whole committee prior to January 22 to be finalized and take effect. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
