A dispute over the presidential primary system has erupted in the DPP. While the party leaders favor nominations exclusively based on public polls, former vice president Annette Lu insists on the inclusion of the party member vote. So far she has collected more than 130 signatures from party representatives in support of her initiative.

Now the party's chapter amendment committee inclines to select the candidate based on public polls, which former vice president Annette Lu shows strong opposition, asking the DPP to also include the eligible party members vote in addition to the public poll.

This morning, Lu held a press conference with legislator Tsao Trong-ron, saying that she's collected 132 signatures from party representatives.

The former vice president says that a candidate is selected through debates, voting and public polls and makes a heated election, which would help raise momentum for the DPP and win the election.

Lu intends to garner more signatures, which will be sent to the party headquarter on January 17th, hoping the proposal can be passed on the national party congress on the 22nd.

When commenting on former DPP chairman Frank Hsieh's view to seek a internal consensus based on the constitution to replace the 92 consensus, Lu shows disapproval.

DPP heavyweights have proposed different views on the nomination system of the presidential and legislator candidates and even offered varied discourse on the party's cross-strait policies.

It's apparent that they are not giving up on the 2012 presidential elections.
