A McDonald's outlet in Taipei has improved its barrier-free facilities after a demand from physically-challenged clients earlier this month. But defects were still found during a recent inspection by city councilors, who now demand the government to step in and help solve the problem.

When physically challenged individuals visit McDonald's, employees of the restaurant quickly take out the barrier-free ramp to assist them to enter the restaurant.

In order to respond to the appeal from the physically challenged, the restaurant quickly purchased such facilities.

But since employees are not aware of how to operate them, it is even more troublesome for customers with special needs.

There's no response to the buzzer and one would have no idea whether or not anyone heard it.

City councilors ask the city government to take supervising responsibilities and penalize restaurant operators who do not install proper barrier-free facilities.

But the related authorities say nothing can be done as the current laws do not allow them to do so.

Therefore the city government says it will suggest the central government to amend the law to include restaurants in the definition of "public places" as to protect the rights of the physically challenged.
