Taiwan is planning to lift its restriction on Chinese visitors, and under the plan, they will be able to travel independently to the island starting on July 1st. Those from Shanghai and Beijing will be the first ones to come to Taiwan on their own, with a quota of 500 people per day, which is set to bring in an annual revenue of around 5 to 6 billion NT dollars to the tourism industry.

Currently, tourists from China can only enter Taiwan as part of a tour group, but the situation is about to change, on July 1st at the earliest.

With the ongoing cross-strait negotiation, China and Taiwan has reached an initial consensus on allowing individual mainland tourists to travel in Taiwan.

Based on the current plan, mainland tourists in Shanghai and Beijing will be the first ones to travel independently in Taiwan, with a quota of 500 people per day. Taiwan travel agencies said that the new change is about to bring 5-to-6-billion-NT-dollar revenue to the local hotels, luxury goods industry, and tourism industry.

At the moment, mainland tourists who want to enter Taiwan must send their passport to Taiwan for reviews.

For the independent mainland tourists, they must pass double reviews, submit guarantee money and get certificates before they enter Taiwan. Regarding the plan, Mainland Affairs Council remains low-profile, stressing that it is still negotiating with its Chinese counterpart on the details of the plan.
