Taipei frogs are a protected species, and they can now only be found in Taipei, Taoyuan, Tainan, and Pingtung.

Now the students of the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, are raising concerns about the well being of these animals, that are slowly disappearing.

.

Taipei frogs are bright green and around four centimeters in length.

In southern Taiwan, they can be found on the campus of Neipu's National Pingtung University of Science and Technology.

However, the school is currently conducting water resource construction in depressions where the species live, and students say that the frogs are disappearing.

Mr. Lee is currently a graduate student at NPUST, and also attended the school for his undergraduate studies.

During his summer breaks every year, he spends time at the depressions to observe and document the frogs in their natural habitat.

Lee says that another part of campus where the frogs were found was turned into an artificial lake, and Taipei frogs have since disappeared from that area.

School officials have been apprised of the situation and are looking into the matter.

Due to pesticides and deteriorating water quality, Taipei frogs are now only found in Taipei's Sanzhi and Shimen, Taoyuan's Longtan and Yangmei, Tainan's Kuantien, and Pingtung's Neipu and Wanluan.

NPUST officials say that they will do their best to turn the artificial lake back into an environment suitable for Taipei frogs and start conducting population studies.
