According to a recent study conducted in Kaohsiung, some of the city's streets are found to be not mother-friendly, especially to pregnant women and those with baby strollers. Civil groups said that instead of providing birth subsidies, the government should improve the accessibility of public facilities for mothers. This walkway is blocked by a steel railing, and women with strollers have to seek assistance from pedestrians to get up the stairs. A Kaohsiung-based women's organization says that many of the city's public venues are inaccessible for women with strollers and pregnant women, and that walkways and sidewalks are often blocked by haphazardly-parked scooters. Therefore, women often find themselves having no choice but to walk on the road, which puts them in danger. According to the Kaohsiung branch of the Awakening Foundation, the local government's sole focus is on improving tourist-friendly facilities. The foundation further says that the government tries to boost the birth rate by distributing birth subsidies, but that officials need to pay more attention to the rights of women if they want the birth rate to rise. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
