The result for this year's university matriculation has been released, and more than 34,000 students have been accepted. Among them, around 14,000 applicants are chosen from the waiting list.

However, the most popular university, National Taiwan University, is seeing 212 vacancies because some of their departments are not offering waiting lists for students.

After the first round of screening, the joint entrance exam, many are going through the second phase, which is an interview.

Students have to fill in what subjects they want to pursue and based upon their order of acceptance, are able to choose departments.

On Monday, many students were able to enter the department of their choice.

Chien Kuo High School had 5 fewer students entering National Taiwan University initially when compared to Taipei First Girl's School.

Later, however, only 160 decided to enter making it tops in Taiwan.

NTU had an admission gap of 212 students setting a record. NTU's Dentistry Department, Entomology and Psychology had no waiting list resulting in these vacancies.

The school hoped that better communication in the future would improve the situation as they hoped the school's standards would not be so strict.

This year, students could apply to 6 schools, up from 5 in the past.

The number of vacancies was around 6804, less than half of last year.

However, this may have to do with fewer positions available.

Teachers said that students had to worker harder on tests with more competition this year.
