The Kaohsiung City Government is transforming the Takao Station, which is the old Kaoshiung Harbor Station, into a bike path for the public. The new construction has received positive feedbacks from most Kaohsiung residents, while some railway fans hope that the city government can also try to combine the railway culture with the bicycle route, to help tourists realize the importance of the station. In response, the city government says it does not rule out the possibility to resume the operation of the train station in the future. While riding a bike, you can also see the railway from the side. This is the old Kaohsiung Harbor Station. Trains were suspended in 2008, and all the tracks have been removed. Local people have sued to preserve the station, though the Kaohsiung City Government wants to transform it into a bike path. Kaohsiung City Government said a 2.27 km bike path will link the West Harbor Line along with 9.93 hectares of green space as well as preserve 38 tracks for people to walkl on or use bikes. It believes that this is enough to preserve railway culture. Combining this track into a bike path has upset railway fans. At the moment, the Kaohsiung City Government has also retained four old tracks that are not covered with grass, and it hopes that in the future, it can be used for special sightseeing trains. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
