One out of four growing children in Taiwan is either overweight or obese. Recent reports show that the unhealthy eating habits and the lack of exercises are greatly affecting their metabolisms.

Bureau of Health Promotion says approximately twenty percent of middle school students spend over two hours each day watching television or playing computer games, while elementary school students spend about 126 minutes. On weekends, the average time spent reaches nearly five hours.

According to recent statistics by the Bureau, out of every four youths in Taiwan, one is clinically overweight or obese. Foods that are popular among students, such as fried chicken and pearl milk tea, contain high amounts of grease and sugar.

Researchers are strongly urging parents to keep a close watch on their childrens' daily habits and food intake to prevent health issues further brought on by obesity.
