One woman's love of studying whales led her to defy the stereotype of male boat captains. Due to her passion for research, she is now training as a captain to spend more time out at sea.

As she efficiently steers the boat with one hand, Chiu Bai-ho is also explaining to her passengers where the whales are located. Though Chiu's fair skin has become tan from her constant travels on the water, she says she loves her work.

For her, the ability to captain a boat in order to conduct more research is worth enduring the long, hot days and possible seasickness.

Catching a glimpse of whales with passengers onboard is an added bonus. Not only are passengers surprised by the sighting of dolphins and whales, they are also surprised by the rare sight of a female captain.

However, it is evident that Chiu is just as qualified and competent as the stereotypical male captain.
