For the past years, Taiwan's cultivated abalones have been infected with a virus, and most of the farms have been wiped out except for one. Let's uncover how this one business is able to sustain, and how the owner managed to defeat the threatening attack.

It is not easy to have healthy, delicious baby abalone grown in Taiwan lately and the prices are going up constantly, starting from 200 NTD a plate.

Since baby abalone in Taiwan had been infected with unknown virus ten years ago, the production volume has dropped from 2,000 tons to less than 200 tons.

But according to Eastern Marine Biology Research Center, it has successfully cultivated healthy seeds by using clean deep-sea water and hopes to promote this to other fish farms.

There were 30 baby abalone fish farmers in the Chenggong Township, which was once the top supplier of the seafood in the country.

But due to the virus attack, many farmers switched to growing shrimps or simply gave up.

Now only one fish farm is left.

The farm uses filtered seawater and seaweed to grow baby abalone.

And it has received many orders from buyers. That's why the farm stressed that management is the key to beating the virus.

So far, the technology of raising healthy baby abalone is available.

If the management problem is improved, perhaps the seafood market can restore its past vitality.
