In order to promote riverbank tourism in Kaohsiung, the city government recently unveiled a new model of amphibious sightseeing vehicle, often dubbed as "duck boats" to carry passengers along the famous Love River. And the new model features enhanced safety designs that will keep it afloat even if there's a hole in the bottom. Kaohsiung City Government's waterfront tourism marketing includes the introduction of amphibious duck boats as a tourist attraction. Now it has been expanded to two new routes, with a journey lasting about an hour. Still, some are worried about an earlier duck boat losing power, leaving some people stranded for nearly an hour. The new number 2 duck boat is safer as the Department of Transportation put special emphasis on modifications to the original design in the US so that the hull even if it is moving and involved in a crash causing a hole will not sink, providing more security. Many people waited to be the first to try this new duck boat, as some were disappointed to learn that group bookings are necessary for the boat before noon. Kaohsiung's Department of Transportation explained that because few people would take the boat before noon. The original duck boat operating on Lotus Pond will resum operations next Tuesday because of low water levels. The Department of Transportation also noted that the average passenger rate was 95% of these duck boats, as they have already transported 40,000 people as it has been a considerable help to tourism. ◆ 追蹤更多華視影音及圖文新聞: 1.用Plurk追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤 2.用Twitter追蹤華視影音及圖文新聞:追蹤
