Around 100 gays and lesbians marched down the streets of Pingtung on Tuesday, voicing out their concerns to the Pingtung County government. Following a tragic incident that led to the deaths of two lesbians, the peaceful demonstrators are asking the lawmakers to educate the public by putting Gender Equity Education Act back into practice, so that gay-friendly campuses can be possible.

Holding banners and the rainbow flag, 13 gay groups from across the country are fighting for the rights of their fellows in Pingtung.

Two weeks ago, two lesbian students at a local nursing college committed suicide by charcoal-burning because their relationship was not accepted by their families and the campus.

While protestors were performing at their best to get attention from bystanders, hoping to get their messages crossed, they didn't shout out any slogans, just quietly mourned the students who passed away.

The parade reached the Pingtung County Government, where representatives of the groups came out to question the authority which fails to alleviate discrimination against gay people over the past decade.

It's been more than a decade since the Central Government implemented the Gender Equity Education Act.

Some scholars came to support gay groups, criticizing that the government hasn't done enough yet and it should pay immediate attention to address the issue.

Besides the legislation, gay groups are asking for more practical changes, hoping the government can begin its effort in education, teaching the public to learn and respect different genders and their preferences.
