A massive group of Formosan Rock Macaques has been causing destruction in Taitung for months, stealing mandarin oranges that are to be sold for the upcoming Chinese New Year. To protect the crops from further damages, the farmers are doing whatever they can to drive the naughty monkeys away, even if it means sitting out from dusk to dawn.

Taiyuan Valley is a major orange production site in Taitung. Recently a large group of Formosan Rock Monkeys can be seen eating Tonggan Mandarin Orange, which farmers plan to sell before the Lunar New Year holidays.

This really frustrates and upsets the farmers.

For the past two months, farmers have been fed up with the phenomenon.

The 70-year-old granny can't think of any solution but net the whole tree.

But this may result in less pretty fruits, which can cause even more financial losses.

Some farmers used a scare tactic by setting off firecrackers early in the morning, but the effect is limited.

Since Tonggan mandarin orange farmers are waiting for this harvest, that's only once every year, they have to do whatever it takes to protect their hard work.

Now farmers take a more practical approach by safeguarding their own fruit farms from dusk to dawn to prevent Formosan Rock Monkeys from invading their property.
