An investigation into the shooting of Sean Lien last November has concluded that the suspect Lin Cheng-wei intended to shoot councilor candidate Chen Hung-yuan but mistook Lien for his target. And the prosecutors indicted Lin on four charges on Friday, including manslaughter and attempted murder, while seeking a death sentence against the accused.
Last year on the evening of the 26th of November, which was also the night before the special municipality elections, Sean Lien was shot in the face when he was campaigning in Yungho city for New Taipei city vice council chairman candidate Chen hong Yuan.
The Panchiao prosecutors office is going to indict suspect Lin Cheng Wei on charges that he failed his blackmailing attempt of Chen Hung Yuans father and brought a gun to the campaign site.
The attempt to shot Chen Hung yuan ended up wounding Lien and killing a by-stander Huang Yuin sheng.
Lin might be charged with manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, pocessions of gun and violating election laws. Lin could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.
However, Lien family and other lawmakers could not accept such investigation direction.
Many legislators believe that the public would not buy the saying that Lin shot Lien by mistake and hope the prosecutors office can invest deeper into it.
The prosecutor office did not hold an official press conference while Lien family said that, after the prosecutors office released the official statement, a lawyer will represent the family and explain how they are taking the result.
