Glove puppetry may be an ideal medium for staging martial arts fantasies, but can you imagine modern military dramas to be presented in this art form? A puppeteer from Yunlin recently made such an attempt, and the result is very promising.

Have you ever seen a puppet in camouflage attire doing push-ups?

It's master puppeteer Huang Shi-jhi's new creation.

His puppets can imitate the actions of real-life soldiers to a T.

In order to keep up with modern advances, Huang continually incorporates military elements in his puppet tricks and dialogues to give his show more relevance and life.

Huang says that traditional puppeteers must continually adapt to new trends in order to keep their business going.

He intends to use his puppets to shoot a military training video.

Already a regiment control district is recruiting willing soldiers to join in making the puppet troupe, which will help with the administration announcements in the military.

The move may also attract a younger audience to the traditional art performance.
