A memorial service was held yesterday for the nine victims who lost their lives in Taichung's pub fire earlier this month.
And Mayor Jason Hu, along with other top officials of the city government, was also in attendance to express his condolences.
The families of the victims said they can only hope that proper measures will be taken by the authorities to prevent such a tragedy from repeating.
On Wednesday, Taichung City Mayor Jason Hu attended a memorial service for the nine victims of the pub fire.
As she spoke with the families of the victims, Hu's wife, Shirley Shaw, couldn't keep tears from falling.
Outside and inside the venue, relatives of the victims became more and more emotional as the service went on.
The investigative report for the incident, which was recently released, attributed the fire to municipal negligence.
27 city government officials have been given demerits or been transferred or demoted, including Urban Development Bureau Director Huang Chung-tien, Economic Development Bureau Director Chu Huei-lan, and Deputy Mayor Hsiao Chia-chi.
Further penalties may be assessed after the Control Yuan completes its investigation.
Hsiao says that the city government will do everything in its power to help victims' families, but many of them say that all they want is for the city government to take measures to prevent future tragedies.
